The Backyard Rink

Well I wasn't sure if we were going to have an ice-rink or not this year . . . it's just a lot of work and a lot time.  But, of course, Ben put it up!  But without the roof this year - that's a huge project in itself.  So we'll see how the rink holds up without it.

The boys had some friends over yesterday and played on it a bit then.  Our family played some hockey that night from 7-8.  You've never played hockey until you've played with a 5-year old.  Everyone had to stop when the puck came within reach of the standing-in-place Lucy and let her have a go at the puck.  Even if that meant waiting while she positioned the puck to a better-hitting spot.  Even if that meant waiting for one, two, three, four, or even five swings of her stick until she connected with the puck and sent it flying on the ice . . . for 6 inches.  It was the cutest thing.

The kids stayed out for another hour just playing their silly games.  I finally called them in at 9pm and told them it was time for bed (but first, of course, hot cocoa was given out).

A bunch of kids on the ice.

Lucy is getting the hang out of it and is actually skating.  Awesome.

The Ice Man and his kids.

 This was Team 1.

Team 2 (plus Ben).  We had to change teams as it wasn't totally fair . . . :)

Cute Jonas lovin' it.

This is what winter-dreams are made of!
