Meet Season

Well meet season is now upon us! The girls had their first meet last weekend up at DU - University of Denver in downtown Denver. It was fun to have the meets up on a college campus because campuses are just the best! I love them.

Strangely, the meets were on Friday. But that worked just fine for us and we were happy not to have them scheduled for Sunday. Yay. Both girls have moved up a level - Emmy is now in diamond and Lucy is in platinum. Moving up can be hard as your scores aren't usually as high, you don't place much or as well, etc., as you did in the lower levels (for your first season). Makes sense, right? But it can still be a bummer - especially if you're an Emmy. :)

Emmy's meet was first, starting at 11:45. Overall, Emmy did well - especially considering it being the first meet of the season and first meet in a new level. Emmy was happy with her vault and floor. She ended up placing 5th on the floor and so that was awesome. She scored low on her beam and bars and so that was a bit of a bummer. She missed connections on both events and her bars just wasn't her normal dynamic routine, but overall she looked good. I thought the scores could have been a bit higher . . . but whatever. Tears were shred and frustrations spoken, but I think Emmy held it together okay. :)

5th place on the floor.

Beautiful gymnast.

Go HERE to check out the video of all of Emmy's events. It goes vault, vault, bars, beam, and then floor.

Emmy's group was pretty small and so her meet ended pretty early. Lucy's meet didn't start until 6pm and so we had time to spare. We walked over to some local joint and got corndogs for the girls. Then we still had a ton of time and so we headed over to the Cherry Creek Mall. We walked around, bought soft pretzels, and I bought the girls some dresses ($10 each!) and jewelry (also on sale).

Girls being cute and having fun while waiting for their pretzel bites. . .

After the mall we headed back to DU. Lucy ended up doing well and was very happy with her scores and performances. She was expecting a lot worse in this new level, so it was fun that she was excited with how she did. Lucy placed 4th on the floor and 7th on vault. She also qualified for state (on her first meet - yay. Emmy did not . . . ). Lucy's meet didn't get over until like 9:30 and so we didn't get back to Jim and Diana's until about 10:30. (We tried to go somewhere "fun" to eat, but everything was closed. So we grabbed something at the McDonald's drive-thru and it actually tasted fantastic, ha.)

7th on vault.

4th on floor.

A few more pictures for fun:
Lucy and her good friend (both at school and gym) Seriana.

Adorable gymnast sisters!

Lucy and her medals. :)

And go HERE to check out Lucy's routines. Her session had a lot more gymnasts competing and so it's a bit harder to maybe see her. But her routines are the olympic order of vault, vault, bars, beam, and floor.

We stayed at Jim and Diana's and it was nice to see them - but we didn't get to see them too much! We got in later on Thursday. Then Friday we were gone from 10:30am-10:30pm! And then we headed out by about 9:30 on Saturday - it was snowing a bit and I just wanted to give us time to get home. Hopefully next time there is a meet up there we'll get more time to visit.

Next up for the girls: a travel meet in Corpus Christi, Texas. Fun!
